OPEN CALL: A SCRUTINY MUTINY
Presented by The Hook Experiment

A Scrutiny Mutiny is a juried, global collective exhibition staging a visual revolt against systems of control, surveillance, and internalized judgment. Hosted by The Hook Experiment — a physical and symbolic space for artists, musicians, and creators to come together — this show invites artists from around the world to examine how we are seen, measured, and shaped by institutions, society, and ourselves.

Possible Interpretations

We encourage a wide range of responses, including but not limited to:

• Surveillance & Rebellion: Work that engages with being watched, tracked, or monitored — and flips that power dynamic.

• Bodies Under Scrutiny: Reclaiming identity in the face of societal, racial, gendered, or medical inspection.

• Internal Uprising: The mutiny within — imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and liberation through expression.

• Historical & Political Scrutiny: Challenging dominant narratives or authority, rewriting official histories.

This is a call to speak back and twist the lens — a collective revolt through art.

Submission Guidelines

• Size: Finished work must be exactly 10 x 10 inches

• Media: Drawing, painting, printmaking, assemblage, wood, glass, ceramics, collage, photography

• Not accepted: Video, electronics, or work requiring power

• Max Submissions: Up to 6 works per artist

• Fee: $20 for up to 3 submissions, $5 each additional (up to 6 total)

• Optional Statement: Up to 150 words (reflection, poem, or context welcome)

• Images: JPEG format, 1500+ pixels on shortest side, 300 dpi preferred

• Labeling: Accepted work must be clearly labeled on the back with:

o Artist Name
o Title
o Medium
o Price
o A completed agreement form (to be provided upon acceptance)

For Accepted Artists

• Artwork must be ready to hang and not exceed 10” in any direction

• Deadline to receive work: October 22, 2025

Drop-off Times:

• Sat, Oct 11 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

• Sun, Oct 12 | 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM

• Mon, Oct 13 | 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM

• Clearly label all work with artist’s name, title medium, and price.

• A signed agreement form (sent with your acceptance email) must be included with your work.

• The Hook Experiment reserves the right to refuse artwork that does not follow guidelines or theme.

Pick-up dates for unsold artwork will be announced.

Power to the Participants

• Artists receive 80% of sales
  (10% to The Hook, 10% donated to the ACLU)

• Work may be marked NFS (Not for Sale)

• Dynamic opening reception

• Engaging school & community events

• Extensive marketing and publicity

• Optional inclusion in a traveling print show

• All accepted artworks will appear in a beautiful, high-quality print catalog (given to artists and available online)
